American Canoe Association Canoe and Kayak Safety

Pamela Dillon, Executive Director of the American Canoe Association, has had a change of heart since editing "Canoeing", her 2008 book with co-editor Jeremy Oyen. Her book has no means to rescue victims from the water (she has none). Instead, victims are to "huddle" in the water, with other victims or individually in a manner to attempt to  reduce body heat loss, until hopefully someone happens by to get them out of the water. Body heat loss in water is 25 times the rate of heat loss in air. They are instructed not to swim to shore unless close enough to be certain to make it. This ensures that they cannot rescue themselves except in the most unlikely favourable circumstances by swimming, and will almost certainly die. If they cannot get out of the water quickly, they will certainly die!

These 2 ten year old girls can rescue themselves within 5 seconds, and any other victims in the water, even large and disabled adults who only need crawl over a submerged gunwale, before the girls paddle them to shore at 2 knots standing up. Normally the girls would be sitting on the seats, body cores out of cold water, and the sponsons would be both clipped to the canoe at a point 4 inches below the gunwale. In this picture one sponson is intentionally set higher to demonstrate 2 knot paddling even with total flooding. (Otherwise, both sponsons 4 inches below the gunwales at the mid-point of the canoe, prevent total flooding through self-bailing by simply leaning the canoe to one side, putting body weight on one sponson.) However, if a large wave should completely flood or swamp the canoe again, it is good to know that the canoe can be easily paddled to shore at 2 knots, completely flooded, by 2 ten year old girls without any instruction or practice:

Notice that one airbag (sponson)  is higher than the other. This is to demonstrate total flooding. If it were set lower, the same as the other sponson or "air bag", most of the water would pour out just by leaning on one Airbag sponson. Also the two girls, 7 and 10 years of age, would normally be sitting on the seats.

However, even standing up they can paddle the canoe that weighs over one ton at a speed of 2 knots. They can also turn and pick up any victims in the water. Even large and disabled adults can be rescued from the water easily, since victims only have to make it over the low gunwale to be in the canoe, so that they can be paddled to shore at 2 knots.

To Dillon's credit, she refuses to claim that victims can paddle a swamped or fully flooded canoe to shore. Obviously, without sponsons she would immediately re-capsize, since the buoyancy of the thin wooden gunwales on a flooded canoe is not sufficient to resist her immediate re-capsize. But other ACA instructors do persist in this lie; although most people know that even a few inches of water sloshing side to side in the bottom of a canoe or kayak is very de-stabilizing. This is obvious. "A capsized paddler who Eskimo rolls is still in the same conditions that capsized him  or her in the first place, and with each roll he or she will take on more water, lessening the kayak's stability." Matt Broze, Deep Trouble, p.91

However Dillon and others have killed hundreds of kayakers using sprayskirts, knowing that a 2 handed pump cannot be shoved down a 2 handed sprayskirt while leaning on a 2 handed paddle with a paddle float on the end. It has generally been recognized for many years that kayaks are impossible to pump out through a sprayskirt, even in small waves. You need hands for the paddle, pump and sprayskirt, but you still can't seal the sprayskirt, so water comes back in. This has been openly acknowledged: "...It has two fairly serious shortcomings: You can't seal the sprayskirt, and you can't keep both hands on the paddle while pumping." (Sea Kayaker Magazine, February 2003, p.29) "The most effective way of using a handheld bilge pump in rough seas is to lift the bottom of your PFD up and shove the pump down between the spray skirt and your belly. This way is slow and awkward, but you can pump with the spray skirt completely sealed. Practice it." (p.27, Sea Kayaker Magazine, June 2006.) Matt Broze, "Pumping Out after Paddle Float Rescue", Paddlewise, Wed, 20 Jun 2001 02:36:43 -0700: "...obviously there are going to be certain combinations of clothing and spraydecks that don't allow a pump down the front. Please try it and report back (if you don't knock yourself out and drown after hitting your chin)." The idea to shove the pump down the top of the sprayskirt requires unfastening the PFD, since the tops of sprayskirts normally extend some distance underneath the PFD.

My May 2001 letter to the Attorney-General of Florida documents the ludicrous: "...the Eskimo roll being the most famous and effective. It's also the hardest...An outrigger rescue with a paddlefloat..." (Canoe and Kayak Magazine, Kayak Touring 2001, p.53) How can the "hardest" rescue be the "most famous and effective"? The World Champs in Greenland require a rescue boat at their Annual Rolling championships (Sea Kayaker Magazine, Feb. 2001, p.41).

The American Canoe Association's letter in reply June 29, 2001 to the Attorney-General of Florida by Gordon Black, lies extensively, avoiding the defending of paddlefloats and Eskimo rolling, since the American Canoe Association in their "Paddler" magazine had already admitted, many times, that most people could not save their lives with either "rescue". These letters and many others are reproduced in "Canoe and Kayak Scam Kills 1000 Americans", available at Amazon.com and throughout the world. Tim Ingram (tim@sponsonguy.com).

The most popular type of kayaks, called "recreational" kayaks", sold at Walmart and sporting goods stores from $300 to $700, 10 or 12 feet long, with a very large cockpit, too large to fit a sprayskirt effectively, has no ACA rescue at all! Victims simply die in the water; although the Search and Rescue groups of the Canadian Coast Guard use these kayaks with sponsons and no sprayskirt (to ensure interior flooding for extra stability from the water ballast), for rocky surf rescues, clipping victims to fore and aft decks and paddled back to the mothership.

Dave Harrison started this whole story in the largest canoe and kayak magazine, stating the obvious below. Then the advertisers, the ACA instructors and their allies, threatened him with a financial boycott. See the original letter in my book "Canoe and Kayak Scam Kills 1000 Americans". It would be the same result if the likewise ethical editor of Sea Kayaker Magazine were to attempt to do the same. Dead bodies are good business for the fraudulent rescues of the American Canoe Association: "I thought these were a better idea, and have turned my old paddle float bag into a camera case." (Canoe and Kayak Magazine, July 1993.)

"Every serious kayaker should learn the Eskimo Roll. It is by far the quickest, most reliable method of rescue (Obviously this statement is untrue, as contradicted above, by the need for back-up rescues, that in turn are not reliable.).... Its only disadvantage is that some find it difficult to learn.... Until you find the blade’s glide angle all attempts to complete a roll will fail and you may pick up several habits that might need to be laboriously broken before you will be able to succeed... Once you master the Eskimo roll make sure you can do it with the equipment you will actually be using. (Why do the Greenland Champs require a rescue boat? Who can trust an Eskimo roll with their life, if the World Champs are failure-prone.) When you get a new boat, paddle, PFD, drysuit or anything else that might affect your roll you should practice rolling with it. It's not enough to be a pool roller, you must also be capable of rolling the kayak as you would be paddling it. That is with a gear load, bag on the back deck, your life jacket on, etc. You need to be successful in whatever conditions (cold water, waves, turbulence, etc.) you may find yourself. " (This recommendation for the Eskimo roll is so qualified and demanding of special considerations, that it cannot be trusted with human lives. It is a "show off" trick.) (www.MarinerKayaks.com)

"However Reimer was an experienced sea kayaker...His Eskimo roll was not strong, so there was only his paddlefloat." He was unable to get back in, like most experienced paddlers. He died an agonizing death:
"Hanging onto his upside-down boat, he lifted his paddle over his head. In spite of the rough seas, he waved it back and forth..." (Sea Kayaker, June, '01, p.54).

"For paddlers with good rolling skills, this is the quickest way to recover from a wet exit. You can be back in the boat and rolled up within a minute." (Jonathan Hanson referring to yet another unlikely "rescue", the "re-entry and roll", Complete Sea Kayak Touring, 1998, p.85) You will also have a boat full of water obviously! And no way to stabilize it while trying to pump it out. Pumping requires at least one hand, holding a paddle at least one hand, and the sprayskirt is generally at least a one hand operation. In Fact: It is impossible to pump out the flooded kayak through an opening between the sprayskirt and the cockpit rim. "...It has two fairly serious shortcomings: You can't seal the sprayskirt, and you can't keep both hands on the paddle while pumping." Sea Kayaker Magazine, February 2003, p.29.)

Homeland Security, that controls the U.S. Coast Guard, has ensured "safety exemptions" for canoes and kayaks, despite attempts by the FBI and The Consumer Product Safety Commission to change this. Men, women and children, an average of 100 annually are killed in canoes and kayaks in America. Brought to you by Homeland Security that has not rebuilt New Orleans nor secured the border with Mexico. American lives are for sale in America to the ACA and other lobby groups. This will likely improve with an election change in Washington this year.

The same long, blue, thin, sponsons close up:

The newest CO2 inflatable sponsons are not long and thin, and easily rescue any victims within 5 seconds, no practice or instruction needed; giving 2 knot speed and re-capsize protection in big waves (that have not suddenly disappeared, nor the suddenly appearing, capsizing winds.) These sponsons can be made at kids' camps from 50 cents worth of used, closed-cell foam and an 8 foot length of cord connecting the sponsons and tied to the middle canoe thwart. Very simple, as long as 2 things exist: these exactly same specific points of attachment to the canoe are made, and the foam contains the same, equal buoyancy to the green pillow sponsons below. Foam will require more volume to equal an air-filled or CO2 filled, Fat pillow sponson in buoyancy, due to the extra weight of the foam. See this most recent patent at the U.S. Patent Office in Washington:  http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6343562.html

You will notice a Big difference between the 2 sponson pictures above. The long, narrow sponsons have only about 60% of the buoyancy of the pillow-shaped green sponsons. The green pilllow sponsons are much more powerful and inflate instantly by means of a CO2 cartridge. They can also be inflated orally in about 10 puffs of air from a normal adult. They are manufactured identically to CO2 PFDs, but are made of much more rugged materials. (They can also be made at kids' camps from 50 cents worth of used, closed-cell foam and an 8 foot length of cord connecting the sponsons and tied to the middle canoe thwart. Very simple) See the most recent patent at the U.S. Patent Office in Washington:   http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6343562.html

Note that historically, Paddle Canada (until recently the Canadian Recreational Canoeing Association) advocated safety flotation for canoes through revered member and famous Canadian canoeist Bill Mason, who reversed his traditional rescue ideas after the many dead schoolchildren (12) in the 1978 Lake Temiskaming tragedy, stating that these rescues simply cannot work, in his last book: "canoe over canoe...I have since changed my mind..." (Song of the Paddle,1988, p.126). Mr. Mason advocated extra interior flotation; otherwise a flooded canoe cannot be paddled and no self rescue is possible. Extra interior flotation is not as effective as sponsons because it negates the water ballast/buoyancy couple that allows:

1. Any 10 year old kids to get out of the water within 5 seconds,
2. As well as rescue others from the water immediately, even large disabled adults from the water in wind and waves.
3. Bail the flooded canoe by simply leaning on one sponson to allow water to pour out, the sponsoned gunwale being slightly above the exterior water level.
4. Re-capsize protection even if large waves completely refill the canoe (or kayak) since the water within is actually water ballast, created by the leverage of the water ballast/sponson buoyancy couple. More water inside creates more stability through more weight. Without sponsons, water inside canoes and kayaks sloshes from side to side, as revealed by any expert paddler, as well as Bill Mason.

You will notice that Dillon attempts to mislead the safety of the public by saying that 4 (count 'em) ACA instructors on and in the (perfectly calm) water in the pictures in her book can rescue themselves; if they don't panic, have 2 lightweight and completely empty canoes, have at least 4 strong, experienced and well-practiced canoeists, and no winds, waves, or any other condition except calm, perfect luck to accompany their deceit and stupidity in showing the "rescue" that has also murdered hundreds, including dozens of school children! Follow the experts over the years, although the foolish and calamity prone ACA Dillon rescue is obvious:

Famous Canadian canoeist and film-maker Bill Mason, reversed his traditional rescue ideas after the dead schoolchildren (12) in the 1978 Lake Temiskaming tragedy, stating that these rescues simply cannot work, in his last book: "canoe over canoe...I have since changed my mind..." (Song of the Paddle,1988, p.126). Mr. Mason advocated extra interior flotation in this book instead, but died suddenly of stomach cancer just before the first sponson patent became known. C.E.S. Franks reached Bill Mason's conclusion just before Temiskaming, in The Canoe and White Water, University of Toronto Press, 1977, p.123: "...nearly useless...On a stormy lake where upsets are likely to occur, the water is often too rough and choppy." Note: American Canoe Association Hall of Fame member Cliff Jacobson in the 2005 book "Expedition Canoeing" states: "The canoe-over-canoe rescue touted by the Red Cross and Boy Scouts is generally impossible to perform in a running sea. Far better to forget about the swamped canoe and gear and put your efforts into rescuing the paddlers" (p.202.) However, in Deep Waters, James Raffan notes that Jacobson's idea merely capsized more canoes, killing 12 boys and one leader, Ontario's Lake Temiskaming, 1978.
See page 108 of "Deep Waters": "Somewhere in the middle of the lake, about two miles from shore and too far from the camp to be seen with the naked eye, the canoe upset. Whether this was from a sudden gust of wind on an otherwise calm summer evening, or from a novice paddler "catching a crab" (a paddle) on the water and shifting position, is not clear, although there was a tendency for some newspaper writers (as there would be with Timiskaming fifty years later) to concoct a violent storm to overturn the canoe. There was likely no storm. In any case the big canoe upset. It had no air tanks, sponsons, or flotation chambers,..."

Dillon published her book in 2008 anyway. Oyen and Dillon are deliberately wanton and reckless with regard to human life, despite the above book comment by even their own ACA Hall of Fame member Cliff Jacobson!

Please note: with sponsons, more water inside creates more weight and therefore more stability. See this stability below in "awashed" U.S. Military kayaks: US Military Special Forces, 10th Airbourne, Fort Devens, MA, 200 mile ocean kayak race, the coast of Maine, between Military Kayaking Teams from about 12 NATO countries:
"basic, no nonsense...dramatically increase...safety and...capabilities... It should be noted that within the North American civilian sea kayak industry there is some controversy...Sea Wings' direct competition with...the paddle float...the merits of Sea Wings...far outweigh those of the paddlefloat...During the IMKP 1994 we used Sea Wings with all our rescue boats as back-up flotation/stability for awashed kayaks needing assistance pumping out in heavy seas. In addition, IMKP's rescue kayak was fitted with Sea Wings on a permanent basis which allowed us to be far more stable in possible rescue operations...Sea Wings dramatically increase re-entry operations with capsized boats. Indeed, even with heavily loaded boats (those approaching 1000 lbs.) most paddlers can easily re-enter the kayak. However the most notable advantage of Sea Wings is with lightly loaded boats; ie, those kayaks which are far less stable (more tippy) than fully loaded boats. Recovery operations are far more difficult in these boats and most students have extreme difficulty in mastering the necessary techniques. This is compounded in heavy seas. Sea Wings offers an almost guaranteed method of re-entering a lightly loaded kayak even in heavy seas. Stability increase in heavy seas. Paddling in extremely heavy seas is difficult. Sea Wings offer the crews an additional method of dealing with such sea states. One of the most dangerous situations a detachment can find itself in is that of towing a disabled crew with full operational loads in heavy seas at night. The employment of Sea Wings dramatically increases the safety margin. In my opinion, this is one of the sponsons' most important contributions to MAROPS... As an historical footnote it should be noted that circumpolar kayakers (Greenlanders and Inuit) employed a similar sponson/ float for stability. It differed significantly though from Sea Wings in that it was free floating; i.e., there was apparently no harness system and stability came from pushing down on the float on the side of the kayak. In addition, during the late 70's and early 80's we employed a similar system with our commo boats. Waterproof bags were blown up and hand held to the sides of the kayak while communication was conducted. The point here is that the idea of some sort of support on the sides of the kayak for stability is very old and universal." Invitational Military Kayak Paddle 1994 Evaluation

Without sponsons no canoe or kayak of any type can be "pumped out", resulting in instability, re-capsize and death. Escape from certain death is the main reason for the "life raft platform concept" in the United States:
USCG Level Flotation Standard  33 CFR 183. Issued April 18, 1977; Effective August 1, 1978  "Establishes level flotation standards on rowboats and outboard boats less than 20 feet in length, the boats most often involved in swamping and capsizing accidents, so that the boat will float level when swamped and provide a safe platform until rescue." The US Coast Guard report 071-01 reveals: "Canoes and kayaks have by far the highest fatality rates per million hours of exposure (.42) as any other boat type". In use hours, canoes and kayaks have a far higher death rate than the deadliest vehicles. "Canoes and kayaks have the highest fatality rate of all boat types." (Before the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation of the U.S. House of Representatives, May 15, 2001, BOAT/U.S.)

Canoes and kayaks, the earliest and most primitive form of watercraft, are capable of 5 second transformation into the patented and most advanced form of active-rescue life raft:  http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6343562.html

Kayaks are generally narrower than canoes, but are transformed into the most advanced form of active-rescue life raft just as easily as canoes. The Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue in Newfoundland use $600, 10 foot recreational kayaks with sponsons to paddle into rocky surf zones, clip victims to fore and aft decks, and paddle back to the big "mother ship" (usually a twin-engined large Zodiac or other rigid-inflatable powerboat.)

See this drawing of a foam sponsoned kayak. These sponsons, made from 50 cents worth of  re-cycled foam, are clipped to the kayak below the small "wing" protruberances that serve to widen the distance between the sponsons to about 3 feet, the usual distance you see in the canoe pictures above:

The foam sponsons can be clipped to 25 cent clips C, or be connected to the kayak instead by a strap or cord B running under the kayak or canoe. The foam sponsons are stowed securely on the rear deck before deployment. The CO2 sponsons can be rugged enough to be "almost bulletproof", like modern liferafts, yet fit into tiny containers molded to the sides of any canoe or kayak. They are an obvious means to save lives. Otherwise victims in the water will soon die, even in 70 degree Fahrenheit waters, where body heat is lost at a rate 25 times the rate of heat loss in air.

You can have 3 very simple types of inexpensive sponsons:

1. Solid closed-cell foam sponsons (larger than inflatable sponsons that contain about 10 adult puffs of air.)
2. Inflatable sponsons that are already pre-inflated (10 puffs) by mouth and stowed securely within the canoe or on the rear deck of a kayak.
3. CO2 inflated sponsons within a protective container molded sleekly within the gunwale of a canoe or the hull of a kayak, inflating in 5 seconds upon pulling a cord.

Of course the major authors are both intelligent and genuinely interested in human lifesaving: "After Lyme Bay (and to avoid further attention from the British Press that tore into this terribly tragic story for weeks and ensured the Manslaughter conviction), the famous UK author Derek Huthchinson wrote: "The Paddlefloat is not really a rough water rescue. During trials I found the SEA WING (sponsons) ... very comforting. I paddled out to sea in rough, windy conditions...I was able to sit on my rear deck-not something I would normally do at sea...The rescue potential is obvious." (Derek Hutchinson, The Complete Book of Sea Kayaking, 1994, pp.104-111) Capt. D.C.S. Thompson, Principal Marine Surveyor, UK Coast Guard (re-named MSA under Margaret Thatcher), contacted me after this tragedy, following the huge media coverage in the UK. Capt. Thompson told me that he was acting on the recommendation of Mr. Derek Hutchinson that sponsons were necessary to prevent the continuing re-capsize of the students' kayaks, after the guides got them back in. Capt. Thompson mentioned that some UK experts complained that sponsons increased the "righting lever" of kayaks so much that kayaks with sponsons were in fact less stable in waves. (The US Military Kayakers did not complain of this! In fact their evaluation stated the obvious: Sponsons make kayaks much more stable in heavy seas or in surf landings when kayaks are more in danger of broaching and capsizing in large, breaking waves.) There is some "expert" propaganda in Paddle Canada about narrower canoes and kayaks being more stable in waves. This is not supported by either science or commonsense.

The famous Canadian author John Dowd, in his book "Sea Kayaking", 1986, p.227 states: "I was once with a group of Outward Bound boys...fourteen boys, 16 to 19 years old...a savage squall capsized nine of them in one blast... any form of group rescue using the techniques...was out of the question. There were two instructors with the group and myself and another instructor in a 24 foot jet rescue boat, watching through binoculars from a distance of half a mile. we picked up...in less than twenty minutes. Without the rescue boat, we would have needed a 1:1 staff to pupil ratio...and even then the result would have been in doubt." With the invention of sponsons in 1987, John Dowd stated: "The great advantage of the Sea Wing (sponsons) is that it leaves the paddler in a more stable position than before capsize." (Sea Kayaking, 1997, pp.90-95) In "Deep Trouble", 1997, sponsons are mentioned for emergency stability on pages 140, 153, and 182. These sponsons or "airbags" can be different shapes and CO2 inflated for immediate rescue from deadly waters in a few seconds, without any instruction or practice, on any kind of canoe or kayak. These sponsons or airbags can be rugged enough to be "almost bulletproof", like modern liferafts, yet fit into tiny containers molded to the sides of any canoe or kayak. They are an obvious means to save lives. Otherwise victims in the water will soon die, even in 70 degree Fahrenheit waters, where body heat is lost at a rate 25 times the rate of heat loss in air.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada Report Number M93W0008 still exists:

"2.8 Emergency and Safety Equipment: The side sponsons...were not inflated and installed ahead of time to assist the kayaker to reboard after a possible capsizing or to increase the stability of the kayaks. Consequently, when the kayakers entered an area of rough seas, they had to keep paddling to keep their kayaks upright. Each kayak was equipped with these floats. The secondary use of the sponsons, i.e. to increase the stability of the kayaks, was not foreseen before the kayaks encountered severe weather."

Unfortunately the young man in the above report, on a commercial kayak touring trip in the Queen Charlotte Islands, paid with his life in 1993, mainly because the full use of sponson safety was not appreciated: deploying them before inevitable capsize in an approaching storm on the open Pacific Ocean. After all, Dr. Hannes   Lindemann crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1956 with a sponsoned canoe, amd then survived a Hurricaine crossing the Atlantic again in 1957 with a sponsoned Klepper kayak. The tour group did not take paddle floats with them because it was well known that paddle floats were both ineffective at providing stability on both sides of the kayaks (in fact actually creating a capsizing lever on one side); but also they could not continue to paddle to a safe shore with paddle floats obviously. But sponsons of course permit steady paddling to safety in heavy winds and capsizing waves flooded with water or not!

Two of these 11 year old Girl Guides below died horribly and slowly, crying and wishing to see their families again. They had no means to escape the water.

I include the record of intent at Kanawa Magazine, 2001 about 200 Canadian deaths ago:

  Dear Ken:

I am not sure just how to "Canadianize" but I'll just write "off the cuff" now.

  How is this:

  Commonsense Canoe and Kayak Safety
  by Tim Ingram

It's pretty simple. When canoes and kayaks capsize, people are most at risk of bad experiences. A general, acceptable statement of fact. Right? Ok, swimming pool capsizes don't count.

In emergency capsizes, canoes and kayaks are not only threatened by water flooding the interior (and causing more instability), getting back in the craft doesn't change the circumstances (that have not magically disappeared.)  People need a Much more stable craft than the one that capsized in the first place, a much more stable craft even filled with water.

Pumping out flooded kayaks and canoes in capsizing wind and waves is an extremely optimistic idea. (Yes we have heard of ramming a 2-handed bilge pump down a 2-handed sprayskirt, while balancing on a 2-handed paddle with a float on the end.) But eventually you have to retrieve the paddle in the same capsizing conditions. And then you have no paddle to brace with. You are Less stable than before capsize. Paddling a flooded open canoe to safety is impossible for anyone. Try it in a pool. Then take a 17' 9" canoe. (This picture probably shows a ton and a half of water in this big Bluewater expedition.) But the girls get it going well, after overcoming inertia.

    Pic 1

The reason the girls can do this: 10 adult puffs of air encased within two, 400 denier nylon urethane bladders. The bladders resemble the 5,000 year old Bering Sea double floats, shown on models of kayaks found in ancient graves.

Ten puffs is a powerful fix of tranverse emergency stability, as you can see. Try it yourself in a pool. Please do not rig your own sponsons for actual conditions. There are many critical and technical aspects for safe sponsons, even though they look simple. But you can have fun in a safe pool just to see the 10 puff power for yourself.

David Zimmerly, a Canadian anthropologist, wrote that Russian military officers reported double floats used by Aleut kayakers, in the 19th century, for stability in storms. Ditto for Greenlanders seen by Danish observers,  5,000 years after Bering Sea double floats. Missionaries in the 19th century were relieved to see big marine mammal floats, held down into the water for stability in furious storms, on those big dugout Canoes of the Northwest. (The Canadian Canoe Museum notices their Haida canoe is quite unstable in waves. All Dugouts are unstable. That's why the Haida had floats, and the Polynesians had outriggers.)

I might add that canoe and kayak rescues require one thing the aboriginal floats did not incorporate. That is the ability to paddle to safety. That is what differentiates the meaning of the word "sponson" (an extension of the hull) from "double floats". The Aleut and the others just held floats down in the water for stability and capsize protection. NATO military kayakers recently did the same thing until the modern yellow, patented sponsons, shown in this picture of Jack, were made in dark blue:

  Pic2

Here is a picture of Jack  8 years later taking a different sponson model for a spin.

  Pic3

Now he needs a rest. (We are all getting a little older.)

Pic4

You know, feedback from instructors as far flung as Australia, England and California indicates fear that sponsons make them obsolete. Nothing could be farther from the truth. They can't meet the need now. And safety can be used to sell the amazing benefits of canoes and kayaks. And free instructors up to teach some of those amazing experiential benefits, with the safety bases covered better. Safety now sells cars. Any marketing expert will tell you: Better Safety Will Sell Canoes and Kayaks much better than the rather disorganized marketing to date. Have a great Fall season. Thanks, Tim

PS: Ken the Pics are in order: canoe girls(1), jack on deck(2), jack paddling (3), jack on tilt (4)

Hello Tim....I am guest editing Kanawa, and in Ken's files, found a copy of some correspondence from you.  There is a story -- which looks like a good bet for Kanawa -- but unfortunately, it is a bit garbled.  I'm wondering if you could send the file to me again.  There are photocopies of photos here, too.  Did you send jpegs?  Unfortunately, I did not inherit the computer or any electronic files.

Can you fill me in on the background?  I like the idea of a story on "10-puff power" -- but I'm not sure I completely understand how the sponsons work.  In fact, I'm sure I DON'T understand.  Where are they located and how are they put into action?  (Sorry to be so dense about the topic!~)

This article was not ever published in "Kanawa", nor any similar article in US magazines. However we can see the conscientious and ethical intent among these editors. They were prevented from publishing by the Canadian Recreational Canoeing Association (CRCA) in Canada, just as an editor might have been prevented from publishing a similar safety article in "Paddler" by the ACA, in the US. We are all familiar with the canoe and kayak industry, and it's deliberate marketing of the most dangerous canoes and kayaks possible, to sell expensive gear and instruction that cannot get victims out of the water.

But today we have a completely different canoe and kayak market! We have honourable canoe and kayak instructors teaching camping skills, survival skills, ecology and nature studies; instead of tedious and deadly "rescues", that don't work, for fraudulent profits.

We have ethical manufacturers willing to produce the 3 types of sponsons, varying in wholesale price from $40 a pair to about $140 a pair for the CO2 sponsons. And of course custom modified CO2 sponsons sleekly fitted to any model of canoe or kayak will cost more. For more profit than "rescue" lessons.

But the main benefit is that every paddler has the capability to rescue more than one victim in the water, like the Coast Guard SAR surf rescue kayaks. Sponsoned canoes are far superior to any other device in thin ice rescues, lightweight, with high capacity for many victims at once: swamp-proof, virtually impossible to capsize, and able to be paddled at 2 knots to safety. Deaths in the water can be almost completely eliminated.

There is a very healthy profit available for every retailer and instructors are freed up to teach much more interesting material!

Change of Heart at the American Canoe Association

The two young women below died in 2 "recreational" kayaks of the type described above, with no American Canoe Association "rescue" scheme for them, having too large a cockpit for any sprayskirt (not that sprayskirts permit pumping out of flooded kayaks, above). Although Coast Guard Surf Rescue Kayaks with Sponsons transform any "recreational" kayak into a very effective Coast Guard Rescue craft: capable of 5 second transformation into the most advanced form of active-rescue life raft. The Mary Jagoda / Sarah Aronoff Kayak Safety Amendment H-4456 in Massachusetts requires mandatory PFD wearage, as in most other States, and for anyone under 13 years according to U.S. Coast Guard law.

Unfortunately, the PFDs would not have enabled them to escape the water and certain death; any more than

freshmen Sean Wilkinson, 14, and Clay McKemie, 15, of Darlington School in Rome, Georgia on a canoe trip near Suwannee, Florida. The School had had a safe and successful trip the previous year in the same area, but this year the motorized and stable catamaran raft near the canoes suffered a rope caught in the propeller, and was unable to reach the boys nearby. Without sponsons they died in the water like the girls above, while wearing PFDs, like the Girl Guides below, also wearing PFDs.

Two of these Girl Guides died within an hour of this happy photo. Why has the American Canoe Association prevented Sponsons since 1993?

"I thought these were a better idea, and have turned my old paddle float bag into a camera case." (Canoe and Kayak Magazine, July 1993.)

"Once you have the Sea Wings fitted and adjusted, its advantages over the paddlefloat become clear. To use a paddlefloat, a certain amount of instruction and practice is needed. But with Sea Wings, I simply told my volunteer how to snap the four buckles, inflate the sponsons, and climb back aboard." (Sea Kayaker Magazine, Winter, 1993)

Pamela Dillon and the American Canoe Association don't want Sponsons, or any kind of rescue safety: "All national paddlesports organizations combined comprise just one percent of committed users and a tenth-percent of the total user group...To represent paddlers to regulatory agencies with legitimacy, an organization should represent at least 10 percent of the sport's committed users...The ACA is the paddlesport organization best placed ...to protect paddlers from paddlecraft registration, required education and mandated PFD use...protecting our sport from needless government regulation." (Paddler, Sept./Oct., 2003, p.84)

But any judge or jury, and the berieved families of over 1,500 dead Americans, and over 350 dead Canadians since 1993; dying in great pain and terror, crying and screaming, thinking of the loved ones they will never see again, can see here: the pain and suffering inflicted by the American Canoe Association for small monetary profit is wanton, reckless and deliberate. The American Canoe Association is nearly as deadly and cruel as Al Qaeda. If questioned, any spokesman for Al Qaeda would deny American Canoe Association Safety on the principle that it does not kill women and children.

Drowning is a very painful death, accounting for its' popularity as a torture for centuries: a favourite at Guantanamo under the term "waterboarding", a simulated drowning; just as with the Gestapo, Kymer Rouge and the Spanish Inquisition. The American Canoe Association should confine its' paddling to Guantanamo Bay.

These are the most despicable, continuing, Crimes against Humanity, against both Americans and Canadians, in history: On Thanksgiving Day 1997 at a children's camp, one boy was selected to live, one boy was left to die. The camp staff slowly and clumsily got one boy to shore without capsizing their kayaks and dying themselves. The other boy was left waving and crying in the water. The one boy selected to live was briefly treated for hypothermia at Parry Sound General Hospital and released. The other boy died thinking of his family that he knew he would never see again. This is what happened to the 2 eleven year old Girl Guides and over 350 other Dead Canadians, as well as over 1,500 Americans. In some years 20% of the dead are Children! Camps can make 5 second sponsons from an 8 foot cord and 50 cents worth of recycled foam.

Political Context in America and Canada: The Painful and Deliberately Torturous Canoe and Kayak Murders: Between 110-140 Dead Citizens Annually Since 1993.

Read "What is America?" by Ronald Wright. This new book well documents the context of murder in plain sight of men, women and children in the United States, and the context of this obvious plan to torture and kill completely innocent citizens, including dozens children, in canoes and kayaks. You might well read Tim Weiner's Legacy of Ashes, The History of the CIA, just to understand that completely innocent and very vulnerable men, women and children around the world have likewise suffered murder and torture for political powers to make easy money. Canada is only less lethal because it is less able to commit this level of atrocity (smaller political powers, but just as cruel.) Canada does have a canoe and kayak murder and torture rate several times higher than the U.S. (Don't forget that ice covers most waters part of the year in Canada and the population is a tenth of the U.S. population.) American readers should be assured that Canada has no legacy of superior morality to America. But this does not negate the fact that American citizens are killed daily to make money for American corporations through bogus drugs, health and safety scams, wars perpetrated by fraud for oil companies and arms manufacturers, and other ways to steal from the taxpayer.

Nevertheless Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Fantino attempted to kill another Native leader using a police sniper recently. (He is a friend of Rudy "The Perp Walk" Giuliano and disgraced, resigned, RCMP Commissioner Zaccardelli, who facilitated 75 CIA rendition torture fights refuelled in Canada, including Maher Arar's flight. Mr. Arar recently provided work in Hollywood for Meryl Streep and Reese Witherspoon in the movie "Rendition", based on his ordeal that his real life wife in Canada finally ended. See the movie. The CIA is not all bad. Neither is the OPP and RCMP. Most police officers in Canada agree with me to stop the murder and torture of children in canoes and kayaks. They do not want a Mussolini helping to govern Canada through fraud and terror tactics; although we have PM Harper now, who is as far right as G.W. Bush. Harper's Attorney General Vic Toews has facilitated the murder of about 80 Canadians in canoes and kayaks on Harper's orders. The Liberals, under Martin and McLellan and RCMP Zaccardelli, murdered over 300, well-known to Toews and Harper before the last election. Then RCMP Zaccardelli charged the Liberals with another scam on the eve of the election, hoping Harper would win. (Zaccardelli was angry that the Liberals allowed the Maher Arar Inquiry, resulting in Zaccardelli lying to Parliament, displaying an I.Q. that quite literally is below the normal average I.Q. of Canada. He has a decent authoritarian personality that is essential for police promotions in Canada, however. See the email correspondence.)

Now Harper as PM and Toews as AG continue the same political murder plan; although originally promising to save these lives: pleasing the OPP, RCMP and Transport Canada canoe and kayak murder scheme, to keep canoes and kayaks as deadly as possible for political reasons. More money to their marine budgets as a result of these deaths, and a general political massage of the "law and order" scheme to gain votes. Police budgets are popular with "law and order" voters, as the politicians know:

See the "put a PFD on in the water scam" on the Transport Canada website and the School Board site! Yes, they actually target most Canadian children in most Canadian schools! The best way to murder children in canoes and kayaks:
1. Tell them that they can  "paddle a flooded canoe to safety" as taught by the Halton District School Board and school boards across Canada, (called a "self-rescue") http://www.haltondsb.on.ca/temp/CanoeGuidelines.pdf   The wooden gunwales less than 2 inches in diameter are not buoyant enough for them to resist tipping over again. They have no means to get out of the cold water and will soon die even wearing a PFD. This scam enables certain death, plus the "rationale" for the systematic blaming pattern: "not enough practice, not enough instruction, not enough money paid for fraudulent instruction." In water, the rate of body heat loss is 25 times the rate in air.

2. Tell them that they can "put a PFD on in the water" as in the same school board website and the Transport Canada website.  http://www.boaterlicences.com/online_coursepfd.htm  and   http://www.haltondsb.on.ca/temp/CanoeGuidelines.pdf    They will likely sink before they can swim far enough to find a PFD in the water, perhaps under a capsized canoe or kayak; and then you must adjust the PFD to fit you (PFDs are not one size fits all) before sinking. This is an impossible task for most victims; but it is taught by the OPP, RCMP, and Transport Canada. The US Coast Guard says this is impossible: PFDs are difficult enough to adjust properly on land. Again, this scam produces certain death; plus the specious "rationale" for the blaming pattern picked up by the media etc.; although the Girl Guides and many others were dead wearing PFDs. The main cause of death is always: not able to escape the deadly water that soon kills in Canada or the U.S., wearing a PFD or not, anytime of the year. In water, the rate of body heat loss is 25 times the rate in air.

Thousands of years ago children were valued:
"Canadian schoolkids have long been taught about Polynesian canoes with those clever outriggers. Those outriggers stabilized otherwise very tippy dugout canoes, to allow human progress to other continents. (Torres Strait was always a tough crossing to Australia, like the Bering Strait.)

The book "The Canoe in Canadian Culture" (eds. Jennings, Hodgins, and Small) doesn't quite understand the magnificent and seaworthy history of kayaks and canoes. But it comes close, regarding the Haida canoes and Aleut kayaks, with trade routes over thousands of miles of ocean, matching Polynesian adventures without sailpower.

Page 51 (fig.3) shows "Prehistoric kayak models. Old Bering Sea with double floats", described on page 50 as hunting floats but in the many references to David Zimmerly's QAJAQ, Kayaks of Siberia and Alaska: "If just one baidarka is caught in a storm, then two large inflated bladders are sometimes tied to its' sides. (Davydov 1814:203)"(p.34) Another kayak model with "two sets of double floats fore and aft...Of the two cockpit depressions, the foreward one is small suggesting that a boy sat there." (op.cit., p.53) Good to see this emphasis on safety, from prehistoric times to the nineteenth century, especially for kids. This double float technology also permitted open sea trade routes.

The canoes of the Haida (Nootka etc.) had double floats: "Just across Queen Charlotte Strait...forty Kwakiutls perished...In very rough seas inflated bladders or sealskin floats were tied to the sides as stabilizers." (p.122, Michael Poole, Ragged Islands) Many 19th century missionaries wrote about these "sponson" floats.

It is comforting to reflect on canoe and kayak design as thousands of years of common sense. Canoes and kayaks cannot escape natural threats. Wind can arrive suddenly without clear warning. Canoes and kayaks cannot normally outrun these threats, so they have used strategic flotation for thousands of years, to survive in much colder waters than Polynesia. The floats did not permit normal paddling, like modern Sponsons. But they effectively saved lives."

"Another kayak model with "two sets of double floats fore and aft...Of the two cockpit depressions, the foreward one is small suggesting that a boy sat there."

Normal human behavior in Canada and the United States would ensure the safety of children and human life in general, just like thousands of years ago! We do not have this today in Canada or the United States. We have a deliberate program of murder and torture of citizens within both countries to satisfy a political agenda for votes: easy money for yet another lobby group, The American Canoe Association. In Canada there is even a "put on a PFD in the water scam" among the OPP, RCMP, and Transport Canada perpetrators. PFDs are not one size fits all, and are difficult enough to adjust to fit each potential victim on land! In America this PFD scam would likely face criminal prosecution; since most States like Massachusetts above have mandatory PFD wearage laws. "Putting PFDs on in the water" is a uniquely murderous and criminal Canadian scam. An RCMP officer died on marine patrol June 3, 2005 on Lake Okanagan from this scam. Most police hate the canoe and kayak scam. Most police want to save the lives of children, just like thousands of years ago. OPP Fantino, RCMP Zaccardelli and the politicians do not, however. Anything for votes and power. See the business beneficiaries of the American Civil War or the OPP murders of Canadian Natives. (OPP Fantino was in the newspapers only weeks ago for trying to kill another Native leader using an OPP sniper.) Canada is just a very small version of the United States, but Canada is capable of some very nasty and unique atrocities toward their own citizenry too, even toward children.

Here is a quote regarding the canoe and kayak murders that nicely captures the current canoe and kayak murder plans in the United States and Canada. This quote could apply to any politicallly motivated murder scheme in Nazi Germany, Rwanda or anywhere else the victims are blamed for their own deaths to give profits to the perpetrators of these murders:

"A "Super-race" of canoeists and kayakers is supposed to exist, far superior to the victims, but in fact the super-race cannot rescue themselves or anyone else from the water using a capsized flooded canoe, unlike the 10 year old girls. To become a member of the "super-race", much expensive instruction must be purchased by the public; although it cannot save the purchaser in the water, no matter how "expert", or thousands of dollars spent, or years of practice. It is impossible to degrade these dead victims unless a "super-race" is fabricated, to whom the victims are "inferior". The super-race need not be an ethnic or racial entity, merely a group that is "superior" so the victims did not "measure up" and died due to their own failings. Until the level of degradation is significant, most people find it unpleasant and difficult to kill these otherwise completely innocent victims, of all ages and cultural groups. Also, society will not tolerate the killings until government propaganda has sufficiently degraded the victims so that their deaths, no matter how cruel and agonizing, no matter that they are the children of someone in Canada or the US, are accepted. The victims are to blame when they are sufficiently degraded."

Crimes Against Humanity have never been so clearly perpetrated in Canada or America, in sharp contrast with normal human lifesaving thousands of years ago in the prehistoric "double floats". Just look at the 5,000 year old floats to save human life in the picture above. Don't forget: Only some police wish to murder children for profit, like the American Canoe Association, Paddle Canada, assorted corporations and their politicians that they fund. To permit these Crimes Against Humanity in Canada and the United States, some lobby group profits from canoe and kayaks deaths, whether the fraudulent American Canoe Association that tortures children to death, or a goverment department that gets taxpayer dollars for more "safety equipment", or police looking for more boats for their marine safety program (they want to be paid to rescue victims, they don't want 10 year old girls rescuing themselves in 5 seconds, nor do they want a superior thin-ice rescue craft to save those dead victims every year), or politicians paid by corporations to enable them to make easy money from the taxpayers.

Morality Injection at The American Canoe Association

It is very easy to save 110-140 lives annually in canoes and kayaks. Very easy since 1993 using Sponsons, even 50 cent sponsons from recycled foam and an 8 foot cord.

The American Canoe Association operates as cruelly and nearly as deadly as Al Qaeda: About 2000 dead from very painful and agonizing drowning and hypothermia deaths. The ACA murders are completely random: they could just as easily murder the child of a police officer. They don't dare use the PFD scam used by Canadian police, Transport Canada, and school boards in Canada. They use their "rescue" fraud and they try to resist PFD legislation: "All national paddlesports organizations combined comprise just one percent of committed users and a tenth-percent of the total user group...To represent paddlers to regulatory agencies with legitimacy, an organization should represent at least 10 percent of the sport's committed users...The ACA is the paddlesport organization best placed ...to protect paddlers from paddlecraft registration, required education and mandated PFD use...protecting our sport from needless government regulation." (Paddler, Sept./Oct., 2003, p.84)

The American Canoe Association operates as cruelly and nearly as deadly as Al Qaeda: About 2000 dead from very painful and agonizing drowning and hypothermia deaths. They would likely suffer lethal injection for a PFD scam at their headquarters in Virginia, very close to USCG headquarters in Washington D.C., where they lobby for the murders of Americans and their children. This is because in the U.S., a PFD scam is against both State and Federal Law. However, they have murdered at least one dozen children using fraudulent canoe and kayak safety in the State of Virginia. For example the 2 boys murdered in a Richmond, Virginia reservoir on February 26, 2006.

Take this information to the Attorney General of Virginia and to your Senators and Members of Congress. The Bush Whitehouse is past the opportunity to destroy New Orleans using Homeland Security in order to "punish" the block of Democratic voters there, an act of gerrymandering that has been documented in several books on Hurricaine Katrina, and the response of the Whitehouse and Homeland Security. Just as the single judge in Texas allowed the hundred other deaths in Florida and other States into evidence in his court after the Texas teenager's death in a Ford Explorer with Firestone tires, eventually creating the 200+ dead Firestone/Ford scandal; so Americans will find out that the American Canoe Association has murdered on American soil nearly half of the number of dead American soldiers in Iraq!

After a fair trial by judge or jury, the executive of the American Canoe Association, perpetrating far more preventable and agonizing deaths than any serial killer in history, every year, could face a sentence of lethal injection in Virginia that would serve the purpose of a dose of morality to the American Canoe Association. I have the list of nearly 2,000 dead in canoes and kayaks, let alone the dead children in the State of Virginia.

These ivory models confirm that 5,000 years ago people were interested in saving lives by means of flotation on both sides of kayaks and canoes. No surprise, this idea is older than the pyramids! It is rather obvious. It was obvious to the US Military Kayakers in their above Study, who mentioned these circumpolar floats and even made their own double floats out of waterproof bags. Read the Military Study above.  The only way to improve this is a cord and 50 cents of re-cycled foam so a flooded canoe or kayak can be paddled to shore by 2 ten year old girls within 5 seconds, even standing up. That is the Sponson patent that you can view on the link above.

However, despite decent people working in the Attorney-General's office in various States, and Police in various States, including the FBI; the American Canoe Association is allowed to torture and murder hundreds of American children since 1993 without end, assisted by Homeland Security that helps this Bush Whitehouse lobby group get taxpayer dollars from the US Coast Guard while leaving hundreds, even thousands to die in the water crying and screaming, thinking of their loved ones they will never see again. The American Canoe Association tells them to huddle in the water to die, instead of getting out in 5 seconds with sponsons. This is such an horrendous Crime Against Humanity, torturing American children to death and receiving taxpayer dollars from the Coast Guard to do this, that it is almost unbelievable.

Except to people paying attention to politics in Washington and New Orleans (and Canada.) Here is a little sidenote: OPP Sgt. Schlorff, head of the Ontario Police Marine program and OPP Superintendent K.C. Smith, who authorized OPP Schlorff to kill dozens of Canadian children years ago, and OPP Commissioner Fantino, all know the American Canoe Association's infamous serial murderer Pamela Dillon. She is by far the deadliest serial murderer in history.  I have her email asking for the help of the OPP to let her continue to murder children in America, just like in Canada. The OPP sent me her email. Want to see it?

Meanwhile get the State of Virginia to investigate the murders of their dead children in canoes and kayaks. Call the police and Attorney General.

A Brief Historical Overview of Humanity and Lifesaving

Briefly, Canada and the United States are modern countries with significant political corruption affecting the lives of their citizens. Most Americans see this fact around them quite easily; but they may not know that in Canada about 20 grieving parents who had suffered the deaths of their young children were then arrested by police, and convicted by the evidence of Ontario Provincial Pathologist Dr. David Smith, who said that they had evidently murdered their own children. Dr. Smith it turns out a few months ago was in fact incompetent, lacking even basic principles of forensic pathology. He was all Ontario had. He was employed at the same Coroner's office that defamed (together with the Ontario Provincial Police), the 2 dead Girl Guides at the Inquiry in Sault Ste. Marie. On CBC radio Dr. Smith apologized to his victims with some nudging by Mr. Lockyer, one of Canada's best criminal lawyers (who has a slight English accent, to my ears.)

In the United States, the US Military Special Forces Kayakers at the NATO Kayak Symposium in 1994 (read this above), wanted to save human lives using Sponsons because Sponsons were obviously a significant improvement over 5,000 year old double floats that they rigged from waterproof bags in the 70's and 80's. I enjoyed the company of these commandos because they were essentially decent people with great respect for human life. They were also well educated and intelligent. Think of this: Canada and the United States have deliberately murdered about 2000 innocent citizens, including hundreds of crying children, told to huddle in the water to die instead of getting out in 5 seconds with 50 cent sponsons made from re-cycled foam. (Think of them left to die crying in the water, knowing that they will not be saved and will never see Mom or Dad again.) The American Canoe Association, Paddle Canada, the RCMPolice, OPPolice, Transport Canada and Homeland Security operatives have not only murdered about 2000 citizens; these random victims died an agonizing and tortured death, whether drowned (like the simulated waterboarding torture now at Guantanamo or the Phillipines as denounced by the famous Mark Twain a century ago), or hypothermia. The horror of these deliberate murders in Canada and America, so bold and plain and obvious as making them huddle in the water instead of getting out in 5 seconds for 50 cents is not the excrutiating pain felt by the victims and the survivors, or the scale of victims 110-140 annually, far surpassing the most infamous serial killers; these murders are perpetrated by police officers in Canada and Homeland Security operatives in Washington.

The evidence just does not get any worse for these murderers in the American Canoe Association, Paddle Canada, the OPP and RCMP. Sure, I can understand that OPP Fantino and the RCMP want to cool this information about their police murderers. Even some politicians are embarrassed. But this evidence is impossible to get rid of. They should plea bargain. Mr. Lockyer with the English accent above can help. In England the killer of the 4 Lyme Bay students (above) only got manslaughter. Recently in the UK, 2 more persons were charged in 3 canoe and kayak deaths in the past year, having to satisfy the court that they were not reckless with human life. The UK has a higher respect for the lives of citizens than Canada or America, apparently. (These UK deaths received justice I believe; since the owners of the rented canoes simply did not understand how very quickly these deaths occur once victims are in the water. Huddling is an effective murder process, with almost zero "scientific" underpinning, unless you count the few more minutes of agony for crying and dying children, fearing they will never see their families again, as "quality time."

Transport Canada's program has much to remind us of Hitler's cold water experiments at Auschwitz, still among the best scientific data on hypothermia in existence, thanks to the careful Nazi documentation, and the fact that they were able to take human bodies all the way down to fatal temperatures without the bother of an ethics committee looking over their shoulder (about 2 million Polish subjects, 3 million Russian POWs, 6 million Jewish people, and about a million the Nazis did not like, for a total of 12 million potential scientific subjects at the Nazi camps.) The cold water experiments were designed to find a solution for too many dead pilots in the English Channel during the Battle of Britain. Solution: Inflatable life raft to get them out of the water. No huddling for Nazis. You think they were stupid as well as cruel? No, we must save that for the American Canoe Association, Homeland Security at the Bush Whitehouse, Prime Minister Harper who has ordered Mr. Toews and Stockwell Day to let the RCMP murder Canadians, OPP Fantino and minions, Paddle Canada, and Transport Canada operatives who released the following publication:

"Canadian waters are always deadly if victims are denied a means of getting out immediately, according to a Transport Canada publication available on the internet: "Hypothermia is your worst enemy...Even in July, a dunking in the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence can lead to total loss of manual dexterity within 5 minutes and death within 15 to 20." (Sea Kayaking Safety Guide, National Library of Canada ISBN 2-89101-179-1, 2003, p.55)"

How Prime Minister Harper Lost Canada by Killing 80 Canadians

Dear Members of Parliament:

Re: PM Harper, MP Toews and Attorney General Nicholson, The Canoe and Kayak Murders

Six Canadians were murdered in Ontario within 6 weeks: The Toronto Star reported a 45 year old man aiding the rescue of 3 teenagers in kayaks drowned June 28,  Thomas Bielawski, 24, and his father also both drowned on June 28, after a canoe capsize near Huntsville, where another man drowned in a canoe one week after Alon Kulik and Daniel Montazernezam were murdered May 18, 2008 in Richmond Hill, using the "paddle a flooded canoe rescue" taught by the Halton District School Board and most Canadian school boards: http://www.haltondsb.on.ca/temp/Canoe Guidelines 2.doc 3.pdf

They did not try to "huddle in the water" nor did they try to "put a PFD on in the water", both methods taught by most Canadian school boards, the OPP, RCMP and Transport Canada: http://www.boaterlicences.com/online_coursepfd.htm  No OPP or RCMP officer can "paddle a flooded canoe" without the extra flotation (sponsons) in these pictures. They cannot "put a PFD on in the water" where they would have to swim to find a PFD, then adjust it to fit, which is why mandatory PFD wearage is the law in most of the United States, both federal and state law. Putting a PFD on in the water is a fraudulent lie, and is illegal in the United States. And advising "huddling in the water" to die instead of getting out immediately with 5 second sponsons, made of 50 cents worth of re-cycled foam and an 8 foot cord or two 25 cent clips, is deliberate murder.

In fact no judge or jury in Canada, nor any honest Canadian citizen can deny these simple facts. I believe that 99% of all Canadian police officers do not deny these simple facts. They certainly would not lie in court to keep their OPP or RCMP job.  PM Harper, MP Toews and Attorney General Nicholson  would not lie in court to keep their jobs, regarding 80 Canadians now dead in canoes and kayaks since:
"Dear Mr. Ingram:
Thank you for your e-mail concerning RCMP investigation Canadian Coast Guard Canoe and Kayak Murders. I have taken the liberty of forwarding your concerns to our critic for Justice, Mr. Vic Toews, MP.  I am sure you will be hearing from him in due course.
Sincerely,
John Reynolds, MP"

Harper, Toews and Nicholson just before the last election, after the promise to correct these "Canoe and Kayak Murders" in Mr. Reynold's email, instead supported RCMP Zaccardelli to lay criminal charges against the Liberals just before the election. Harper, Toews and Nicholson supported RCMP Zaccardelli and his minions murdering Canadian children instead; supported OPP Fantino, OPP Sgt. Schlorff and OPP Supt. Smith murdering kids instead; supported Transport Canada Gerard McDonald, Daniel Hache, Jon Churchill and P. Garapick to murder helpless men, women and children in the water, instead.

September 3, 2008 on CBC radio, the now resigned RCMP Zaccardelli says Tasers should go, but government will not confront Police Unions! Presumably Police Unions have been allowed to murder over 350 Canadians, children screaming and dying in the water in terror, fearing never to see their families again because the OPP and RCMP unions are the real murderers.

Obviously OPP Fantino, OPP Schlorff and OPP Smith have wanted to leave children to die in the water, telling them to "huddle" and wait for the OPP boat to rescue them. If they die it is their fault. In fact OPP Fantino, Schlorff, Smith and RCMP Zaccardelli have for years denied Canadian children 50 cent sponsons with an 8 foot cord or two 25 cent clips. But like the most sadistic Nazis at Auschwitz deliberately murdered these kids, and Canadian parents.

These dirty cops may say the unions made them do it! In fact they could have charged the Paddle Canada child murderers any time with fraudulent safety that has left over 350 citizens in the water to die, deliberately murdering the public. Now they are here on the Internet charged with deliberately permitting sadistic murders that would make any Nazi proud. They deliberately degrade these innocent dead Canadian victims, blaming them for their own painful deaths, like any good Nazis or other mass murderers:

"A "Super-race" of canoeists and kayakers is supposed to exist, far superior to the victims, but in fact the super-race cannot rescue themselves or anyone else from the water using a capsized flooded canoe, unlike the 10 year old girls. To become a member of the "super-race", much expensive instruction must be purchased by the public; although it cannot save the purchaser in the water, no matter how "expert", or thousands of dollars spent, or years of practice. It is impossible to degrade
these dead victims unless a "super-race" is fabricated, to whom the victims are "inferior".

But what are Harper, Toews and Nicholson doing about this, 80 deaths since Mr. Reynolds MP above, replied to me as a decent Parliamentarian? Where is Mr. Dion here? Six canoe and kayak murders in 6 weeks near Toronto. Mr. Dion: Ask Harper about this. Do you want to lose another election and help murder more Canadian children?

This is a long time for Mr. Toews to reply, whom Mr. Reynolds MP (retired) contacted regarding these canoe and kayak murders Oct. 2004:
"Dear Mr.

However, finally Mr. Toews' office has replied and Mr. Nicholson, now the Attorney General, Mr. Harper and Mr. Toews are now deciding what they will do about this horrible scandal, far more horrible than any scandal that any Canadian Prime Minister has faced in the history of Canada: The Murder of Canadian men, women and children by the Government of Canada and Canadian police.

This scandal is perhaps inevitable when a government with a weak opposition engages a "law and order" platform in the pursuit of political power. Here is the evidence of thousands of pages regarding the Harper government allowing 2 Canadian Police Forces to murder Canadian citizens. There is no other word than "murder"; since the OPP and RCMP cannot be merely guilty of Criminal Negligence Causing Death. Together with Transport Canada they have deliberately planned to leave at least 80 Canadians to die in the water: "huddling", "putting a PFD on in the water", or "paddling a flooded canoe to shore" like the 2 dead boys who screamed as they died in terror, Toronto, May 18, 2008. All of these ideas ensure that victims cannot rescue themselves from the water where they face certain death. Mr. Toews, Mr. Harper and now Mr. Nicholson have already read about 10 year old girls getting out of the water in 5 seconds with 50 cent Sponsons, made from re-cycled foam and an 8 foot cord. But OPP Fantino's marine police, the RCMP and Transport Canada recommend instead that Canadian children "huddle in the water" to die: "Hypothermia is your worst enemy...Even in July, a dunking in the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence can lead to total loss of manual dexterity within 5 minutes and death within 15 to 20." (Sea Kayaking Safety Guide, National Library of Canada ISBN 2-89101-179-1, 2003, p.55)"

Mr. Flaherty sent me a letter helpfully suggesting that Stockwell Day would address this Public Safety issue. (Mr. Flaherty kindly sent me a similar letter years ago when he was a Minister for Premier Harris, suggesting that I contact the RCMP, which I did.) I believe that most MPs and many MPPs are decent people like Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Flaherty, and all of you who have read about these Crimes Against Humanity (what else are they?)

All of you can understand the feelings of parents thinking of their dead children and their last moments, crying and wanting to see their family again. The horror of these repeated acts by Transport Canada, the OPP and RCMP is OVERWHELMING FOR MOST NORMAL PEOPLE. But here we have it. The School Boards of Canada and Transport Canada want these children to "put a PFD on in the water" and "Huddle in the water" etc. to die, instead of getting out in 5 seconds with 50 cent Sponsons made from re-cycled foam and an 8 foot cord.

The sheer ARROGANCE and extreme cruelty of these deliberate murders is overwhelming! And, as you know, the grieving families of the victims face degradation of their loved ones by the Police and Government of Canada:

"A "Super-race" of canoeists and kayakers is supposed to exist, far superior to the victims, but in fact the super-race cannot rescue themselves or anyone else from the water using a capsized flooded canoe, unlike the 10 year old girls. To become a member of the "super-race", much expensive instruction must be purchased by the public; although it cannot save the purchaser in the water, no matter how "expert", or thousands of dollars spent, or years of practice. It is impossible to degrade
these dead victims unless a "super-race" is fabricated, to whom the victims are "inferior".

Of course Canadian schools do not make students "Huddle in the water to Die", they just follow the despicable OPP Fantino and his 2 dirty cops, RCMP Zaccardelli and his dirty cops, and the dirty half dozen child murderers at Transport Canada (all supporting the fraudulent Paddle Canada organization.) Now that dirty RCMP Zaccardelli is gone, the best way to find the identity of the most culpable RCMP murderers is to ask RCMP Inspector Christian Tardiff, to whom I spoke in Oct. 2004, the same time as contacting Mr. Reynolds. MP. Inspector Tardiff is a courteous RCMP officer with an undergraduate degree in Psychology from McGill. He will tell you whose orders he was following, now about 80 canoe and kayak deaths ago. It does not take long to murder 80 Canadians using this method.

"Dirty" is about as bad as it gets for anyone who could tell a child or anyone else that they should "huddle in the water instead of getting out in 5 seconds with 50 cent Sponsons". Or any other Sponsons. But these are the facts. RCMP Inspector Tardiff, Mr. Reynolds MP, Mr. Toews, and Mr. Harper PM will all admit to these facts, 80 deaths ago! Thousands of pages of documentation. RCMP Inspector Tardiff told me in 2004 that I had "tied-up a large number of RCMP staff for many weeks, who had to read all of (my) emails" to them. (No doubt they learned a lot of basic physics, medicine, ethics, and world history besides.)

But as Members of Parliament you probably want to know about the enforcement of canoe and kayak safety laws in the UK. (Very strict.) You might want to read about MP Samuel Plimsoll who fought in Parliament to save British seamen from death in unseaworthy vessels that were deliberately over-insured and sank. But most pertinently, you will want to read about How "Huddling in the Water" is an effective murder process, with almost zero "scientific" underpinning, unless you count the few more minutes of agony for crying and dying children, fearing they will never see their families again, as "quality time."

You will probably want to know about this death process and that Transport Canada's program has much to remind us of Hitler's cold water experiments at Auschwitz: Still among the best scientific data on hypothermia in existence, thanks to the careful Nazi documentation, and the fact that they were able to take human bodies all the way down to fatal temperatures (see Transport Canada below) without the bother of an ethics committee looking over their shoulder. The cold water experiments were designed to find a solution for too many dead pilots in the English Channel during the Battle of Britain. Solution: Inflatable life raft to get them out of the water. No huddling for Nazis. Transport Canada knows:

"Canadian waters are always deadly if victims are denied a means of getting out immediately, according to a Transport Canada publication available on the internet: "Hypothermia is your worst enemy...Even in July, a dunking in the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence can lead to total loss of manual dexterity within 5 minutes and death within 15 to 20." (Sea Kayaking Safety Guide, National Library of Canada ISBN 2-89101-179-1, 2003, p.55)"

As MPs you will also want to know about the 5,000 year old "double floats" (older than the pyramids). Kayaks are hunting craft at least 20,000 years old:
"In the United States, the US Military Special Forces Kayakers at the NATO Kayak Symposium in 1994 (read in this webpage), wanted to save human lives using Sponsons because Sponsons were obviously a significant improvement over 5,000 year old double floats that they rigged from waterproof bags in the 70's and 80's. ("In addition, during the late 70's and early 80's we employed a similar system with our commo boats. Waterproof bags were blown up and hand held to the sides of the kayak while...")  I enjoyed the company of these commandos because they were essentially decent people with great respect for human life. (The only other civilian invited was the famous Canadian author John Dowd who paddled the exact path of the WW2 Australian kayaking commandos, camping in the same sea caves, finding their rusted gear. They were all captured, tortured and executed by the Japanese after sinking ships in Singapore harbour.) The US Military Kayakers were very well educated and intelligent. They wanted to save civilian lives in canoes and kayaks too! Think of this: Canada and the United States have since then deliberately allowed the murders about 2000 innocent citizens, including hundreds of crying children, told to huddle in the water to die instead of getting out in 5 seconds with 50 cent sponsons made from re-cycled foam. (Think of them left to die crying in the water, knowing that they will not be saved and will never see Mom or Dad again.)

Only a few citizens know that their loved ones died an agonizing death to support a scam! Those who know are too devastated and ill-equipped to whistle-blow here. (How much energy would you have after your child was DEAD?) I am well-known to Transport Canada, OPP Fantino and RCMP Zaccardelli as the whistle-blower.

As MPs you may want to think about how the people in China would react to these murders by Transport Canada and Police Forces in Canada. Despite a repressive government, they strongly reacted to the schoolchildren buried in poorly-built schools in the recent earthquake. The next time Prime Minister Harper lets loose a diplomatic fart on China, I shall make sure that China has the emails to know that Prime Minister Harper has ordered Attorney General Toews to ignore these 80 horrendous canoe and kayak murders, even murdering 2 screaming Canadian schoolchildren as reported in all Toronto newspapers May 18, 2008 in Richmond Hill (Toronto) by Transport Canada, the OPP, the RCMP, and Paddle Canada. These boys were not trying to "huddle in the water" but were attempting to "paddle a flooded canoe" (impossible without sponsons) to shore, as taught by the Halton District School Board and others.

You may also want to see the OPP email sent to me regarding the infamous Pamela Dillon who heads the Washington D.C. lobby group that murders about 100 Americans every year, but is prevented from using the (illegal in the US) Transport Canada "put a PFD on in the water" scam: http://www.sponsonguy.com/AmericanCanoeAssociationSafety.html

There is no excuse for Prime Minister Harper ordering Mr. Toews to ignore the 80 canoe and kayak deaths. This is a scandal so cruel and outrageous that Harper does not deserve to be Prime Minister. I would be pleased to help any Parliamentary Inquiry into these deaths. Sometimes I do phone the parents of dead children to find that they could not change the voice recording of their dead child on the answering machine. That is all 80 Canadian families have left, for which Mr. Harper is directly responsible. Canada deserves better than this!

Be warned of the usual "bait and switch" deceptions used by the "Canoe Experts" in Canada. My knowledge of these "experts" and of canoes and kayaks is extremely thorough. It is really very simple. People 5,000 years ago (see the pictures of the ivory grave models), died in canoes and kayaks. They made "double floats" out of sea mammals to save themselves, just like the very intelligent and lifesaving US Military Kayakers at Fort Devens, Massachusetts in the "70's and 80's" rigged double floats from waterproof bags; until my patented Sponsons became the obvious and very significant improvement by permiitting paddling or towing to safety. No huddling in the water for 5,000 years. These people were alive and successful getting out and staying out of the water, not stupid.

Prime Minister Harper, OPP Fantino, RCMP Zaccardelli, the Transport Canada minions, and Paddle Canada operatives are despicable child murderers. There are thousands of pages of evidence and several Justices of the Peace and a judge know it. Now Parliament knows it.

Why not Free President Obama from 911 lies (The Bush Playbook to go to war)? Go to http://www.patriotsquestion911.com and see Senator Patrick Leahy, Many of the Republican and Democratic 2008 presidential candidates who Pres. Obama knows, retired and decorated CIA and US Military veterans, heads of state, scientists, airline pilots, architects and engineers.

Yesterday, April 3, 2009 on my daughter's birthday, President Obama lied in Europe, referring to the Al Qaeda pilots who went from Florida cessna pilot training to fly into the towers, that no trained American airline pilots can do! Read http://www.patriotsquestion911.com See the Pentagon staffers who saw the hole in the wall of the Pentagon, 20 feet in diameter, no debris from tail or wings of an airliner. WTC 7, 49 stories, collapsed as in a controlled demolition into its' own footprint without an airliner strike, like the 911 towers with nearly 3,000 inside.

American people are not stupid, European people even less so. American jobs will not soon return, anger will rise. The 911 Commissioners have called to re-open the 9/11 Commission for years: it is a failed and deceiving report.

Read the links on http://www.sponsonguy.com, see the 9/11 pictures and arrest Giuliani (who destroyed the crime scene, breaking federal and state laws), in the first 15 lines: "FBI Public Safety Arrests" etc. President Obama does not have much time before seething anger and jobless/hopelessness takes over America. Re-open 9/11. Don't give bin Laden credit for pilots so smart they can go from flying a Cessna, to flying 700 series Boeing airliners like no American military or airline pilot can do!

Americans are not stupid. Ask Senator Patrick Leahy.
